I had the privilege of knowing Dr. Ron as a friend, colleague and mentor over my 40+ years in blood banking. Back in the mid-1990s and when he was at OBI, Ron helped me with an attempt to establish the Alabama Blood Institute. Politics and Red Cross influences kept it from happening, but some good came from the process. Ron always had a special place in our hearts.
