I join all here in mourning an iconic leader in the international blood banking community.
Time after time, I saw Dr. Gilcher break with tradition and precedent to reach for an improved way of serving his patients and community. He’d be prepared to stand alone when it mattered most, and for the sake of innovation that might lead to improved blood safety, quality, supply or customer service. We’ve all benefited from his courage in doing so.
He was very much wired like that old school family physician who still made house calls, only Dr. Gilcher’s “house calls” benefitted the entire international blood community, and the patients whose needs it continues to meet.
