When our company, Organon Teknika, developed equipment for plasmaphereses, we were fortunate to have Ron Gilcher as an adviser. He tested our equipment and helped to get it approved by the FDA. After I left the medical field we remained friends and often had lunch together at the “Lido”, his favorite restaurant. During these lunches he always updated me on the latest developments in the field of blood donation, particularly the ever increasing number of tests that needed to be done to keep the blood supply safe. As a bonus from time to time we even discussed my medical records. I never expected Ron to become my private physician, but it happened and was an honor.
